Warren Peace has tried to put his troubled past behind him, so he works at night, repossessing gravestones. But, a series of handbills pasted to the lamp-posts on his street draws Warren into a relationship with his beautiful neighbour, and a story that compels him to confront a corrupt mining industry – one that drove him from his home and has wreaked havoc in its wake. Forced to confront his past, Warren becomes engrossed in the story of a small community in Guatemala that is coming to grips with the loss of children poisoned by a Canadian gold mining company. Warren’s journey takes him into the heart of struggle for justice that stretches from the Cape Breton roots of a rural mining town, through the Indian diaspora of Toronto to a burial site in Guatemala. Tailings of Warren Peace is a story of love, memory, the way the past haunts us and the power of solidarity to save us.
